A Christmas Secret, written by Candace Hall, is a story that follows Santa's reindeer on their annual trek across the world. During one stop, while Santa is inside delivering presents, the reindeer hear a small sound. Upon investigation, Rudolph finds a small kitten shivering in the cold. He looks about to try to find where the kitten came from, but is unsuccessful. Rudolph picks up the kitten and hides him in Santa's sleigh, even while knowing that only creatures born in the North Pole can live in the North Pole (because of the Christmas magic, of course!). Does Santa find out about the kitten? Does the kitten find a home? The rest of the tale you will have to read for yourself.
The kitten, eventually named O'Malley, is based on a real-life kitten that was found by the author's mother. This isn't a very long tale, but is sweet. Many characters we know and love are in it (including Rudolph, the rest of the reindeer and Santa and Mrs. Claus) - plus new characters for your children to discover. The illustrations, by Justin Stier, are simple but beautiful - and they really endear O'Malley to you. If you're looking for a stocking stuffer that will surprise and delight your kids, this may just be it.
