{Children's Book Review} Max Lucado's Daily Devotional Bible

When I was little, I had a comic book Bible. And most of the Bible storybooks my parents read to me had many pictures. Now Max Lucado, famous for writing adult Christian books, has helped to develop Max Lucado's Daily Devotional Bible for kids. In the preface, you find that this Bible is the International Children's Bible, and it explains a little bit about the translation process and how this particular title was adapted as a children's Bible. Some neat features in this Bible are the Promise Pointers (various promises that are highlighted), Power Prayers (50 of the great prayers in the Bible), and Daily Discovery Devos (366 devotional tidbits for reading through the Bible).

Just looking through this particular Bible, it is very easy to read. The only parts that I'm a little hesitant about as far as translation are concerned are the reworking of rhetorical questions, figures of speech and idiomatic expressions and whether it is making it easier for kids to understand or just dumbing down the Bible. And that is a question that I think parents have to decide. The Daily Discovery Devos are spread throughout (usually every few chapters) and focus on a particular verse. One additional section is is the Color Bible Truths Pages. These pages are labelled Grudges, Family, Worry and other various topics covered in the Bible. This daily devotional Bible could be helpful to your child/teen, but as with anything you give your child, I would recommend looking over it yourself first.
