Attention all young creative geniuses in Kansas City - a new attraction is on the way that is sure to knock your socks off! What is it? LEGOLAND Discovery Center!
The groundbreaking ceremony for LEGOLAND Discovery Center - Kansas City took place last Wednesday, September 28. I was excited to be there as the first bit of dirt - or in this case bricks - was turned.
My little tagalong was kind of sleepy while we waited for the groundbreaking to begin. He has no idea how much he will love LEGOLAND when he is older!
There were several speakers who shared information about LEGOLAND Discovery Center, including Janine DiGioacchino (US Divisional Director of Merlin Entertainment), Bill Lucas (President of Crown Center), Rick Hughes (President and CEO of KC Convention and Visitor's Association), Thomas G. Coyle AICP (Kansas City Director of City Planning and Development) and Phil Thomas (President of A.L. Huber, General Contractor).
LEGOLAND, when completed (estimated opening in Spring 2012), will be a 2-3 indoor attraction featuring a 4D Cinema, party rooms, an interactive LEGO laser ride, and more! Something not to be missed will be MINILAND - which will feature LEGO creations of famous sights around Kansas City!
I'm personally excited about the DUPLO Village - it will be designed specifically with younger children in mind, so I know it's going to be great fun for my own little family!
Once we had heard a little about the plans for LEGOLAND, everyone was excited to see a very unique groundbreaking occur. Over 20,000 LEGO bricks arrived and were dropped on the site where LEGOLAND will soon stand!
LEGOLAND Discovery Center plans to provide nearly one hundred jobs over the next year. The attraction is expected to bring around 250,000 visitors to Kansas City annually!
After the groundbreaking, L and I stopped by the reception, where he received a little box filled with some of the LEGO bricks from the ceremony! He's a little too small to play with them yet, but I have an idea that in the next few years, he is going to LOVE having LEGOLAND Discovery Center so close to home!
