The True Story of Puss 'n Boots {DVD Review}

The True Story of Puss 'n Boots has just been released on DVD in time for the holiday season. This Puss 'n Boots movie follows the original story by Charles Perrault. The titular cat is voiced by the renown William Shatner (most famous for playing "Captain Kirk" on Star Trek). The story follows a miller's son as he dreams of marrying the princess and the Puss 'n Boots who helps him along the way.

This movie was interesting. The thing I most enjoyed about the film was the music. The movie opened with a unique version of Für Elise and throughout, someone familiar with classical music might pick up on tunes by Mozart, Handel and Wagner as well as songs such as "Greensleeves" and "Ave Maria." The most surprising song (and I'm not sure it totally fit) was "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story. That is a very iconic song and I just wasn't 'feeling it' in this movie. The thing I found most disappointing about the movie was William Shatner as the Puss 'n Boots. I think Shatner is very funny and was happy to hear that he was voicing the title character - unfortunately, Shatner's Puss sounded more like Winnie the Pooh. I'm afraid in a contest of the different versions of Puss 'n Boots, I would likely pick Antonio Banderas'.
