The Disturbing Truth about Bottled Water

More parents are becoming aware of the dangers of tap water and the chemicals they can contain. Tap water can contain chemicals like lead, chlorine, or VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) that you and your family should not consume. After a long period of drinking tap water, these chemicals can lead to diseases such as cancers of bladder, breast, and colon.

Most people try to avoid the problems of tap water by buying bottled water instead. Bottled water, ironically, is not much safer from tap water in some cases. Contaminants sometimes found in bottled water include MTBE (a chemical found in fertilizer), arsenic, Coli form bacteria, and nitrates. These chemicals can also cause cancer, as well as pre-mature death at any age. This is not surprising, considering that most bottled water is just tap water with a fancy label!

The cost of bottled water can also become quite expensive. Considering that a bottle of water can cost anywhere from 1 to 4 dollars, the price can add up if you’re drinking it every day. In fact, the average American spends over $167 per year on bottled water alone. This is illogical, as they are paying for what they already have available in their home – tap water.

The environmental damage created by the disposal of bottled water is astronomical. Considering only 20% of water bottles are recycled and 50 billion are used each year, bottled water accounts for a large amount of waste. Bottled water corporations are responsible for this waste, as they are usually bottling tap water we already have at home.

So how can you eliminate these chemicals and avoid buying expensive bottles of water? By installing a house water filtration system, you can solve these problems. Water filters purify the water throughout your home, so you can enjoy contaminant-free water at your convenience. You and your family will be much healthier, with some extra money to spend.
