Book Review: Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs

Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from ThemBad Girls of the Bible. We're talking about Delilah and Rahab. Eve - and of course, Jezebel. These are not necessarily the characters that you would think of when looking for examples of great Biblical women. Why teach your daughters about Sapphira or the Woman at the Well when you can tell tales of Ruth and Esther? Give this book a try and you might just realize that there are incredible lessons to learn from these characters!

I have to say that I devoured this title written by Liz Curtis Higgs. What a fresh approach to Bible study - reading about the characters who did the WRONG thing. Liz Curtis Higgs is one of my favorite authors and she has done a fantastic job bringing these stories to life. She weaves a modern-day fictional version of the stories of Michael, Potiphar's Wife, and the rest of the "bad girls" that helps put the story into perspective for today's readers.

This book succeeded in really making me think about the decisions these characters faced - and why their choices were wrong. I love that a wide variety is presented - Girls who were Bad for a Season (but not forever), Bad for a Moment, or just plain Bad to the Bone. So many little choices in life can lead to something much, much bigger than we might anticipate - and it's definitely a good reminder to always be on guard! This book definitely made me want to look up the Biblical accounts of each story, to read them again and see what I may have missed.

Overall - I loved this one and highly recommend it if you're looking for a good Christian book to sink your teeth into. If you're a fiction lover, make sure you check out Liz Curtis Higgs' other titles - including Here Burns My Candle (the story of Ruth - read my review here) and Thorn in My Heart (first in a series about Jacob, Leah, and Rachel - my FAVORITE book series).

Bad Girls of the Bible retails for $14.99 but is priced at just $8.47 right now on Amazon (43% off)!
