If you say 'Fyodor Dostoevsky' to most people, they would probably say 'Excuse you' as though you'd just blown your nose and some might even say, "Didn't he write something?" He has written a world-renown novel - Crime & Punishment - as well as several others. But most people likely have not taken the time to look behind to author to his life and influences. Dostoevsky lived an exciting life and his exploration of human nature in his written works was directly affected. Fyodor Dostoevsky (written by Peter Leithart) is part of the Christian Encounters Series which also includes other authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien and Jane Austen as well as Winston Churchill, Galileo and Saint Nicholas.
The first time I really knew who Fyodor Dostoevsky was came during my sophomore year of college. I was taking a Political Science class and my professor had us read Crime & Punishment. I think that title has become one that most people would recognize whether they have read it or not. I was fascinated by it and I read several of his other works. Fyodor Dostoevsky was a fascinating read. I am the kind of person who watches the "extras" on DVD's, so I am always interested to see the goings on 'behind the scenes.' This book provided a look into the life of a man I may not have otherwise studied. This book reads easily - like a story and not a history lesson, which is a definite plus when reading time is limited. I am excited to read the entire series.
You can purchase Fyodor Dostoevsky on Amazon (currently priced at $9.12).
