Lithium Batteries: Hidden Dangers for Young Children

I have a little person who does nothing all day but crawl around and find things to put in his mouth. Literally. He never stops. My house is still not entirely baby-proofed - things just keep moving to higher shelves as he figures out how to reach them.

Most of the things I am moving higher are breakable or made of paper or some other substance that I would prefer not to be chewed.  However, there are a lot of household items which seem harmless enough, but should be kept closely guarded.  What are these things?  Anything containing a lithium button battery.  That's right - remote controls, watches, calculaters, car keys, flameless candles, singing greeting cards and other electronic devices.

Last year alone, over 3,400 batteries were swallowed by young children.  Lithium batteries can cause severe injuries (such as burns), and that is definitely something that parents do not want.  Watch this video from The Battery Controlled - I did, and I am now searching my house to make sure it is a safe environment for L all the time!

This is an especially important issue to keep in mind with the upcoming holidays - make sure you check all new electronics devices to make sure they are safe for your kids!
