Thrifty Thursday Home Made Cleaners

My Kansas City Mommy will be sharing a "Thrifty Thursday" post each week. This week I decided we would start with my favorite find from Pinterest last year - ok really I had so many favorite finds I just picked one that I think saves me a ton of money.  There will be many more Thrifty Thursday Posts coming from Pinterest.  Did you know My Kansas City Mommy is on Pinterest and we would love for you to  follow us on Pinterest.

Home Made Cleaners. I am LOVING making my own cleaners at home and saving money while knowing what each cleaner contains. No more harsh chemicals in our home - I used to the be the Clorox Queen (my friends and sometimes kids said my house smelled like the indoor pool - not sure if that was a good or a bad thing) but I have been forever changed!

Here are a few of my favorite recipes.

Homemade Multi Purpose Cleaner (Like 409)

  • 2-3 Tbsp Distilled White Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Borax
  • 1 Cup Hot Water
  • 1/8 Cup Dawn Dishsoap
  • Spray Bottle {16 oz.} (I bought mine at the Dollar Tree)
  1. Pour vinegar, borax and hot water into spray bottle.
  2. Then continue filling spray bottle with cool water.
  3. Add Dawn Dishsoap last. {Don't shake}
  4. If you like add a few drops of your favorite essential oil

Homemade Glass Cleaner & Stainless Cleaner

  • 2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup White Vinegar
  • 4 to 6 drops Dawn Dish Soap
  • Empty Spray Bottle

  1. Combine water, vinegar, and dawn dish soap in an empty spray bottle, and… you are done! I know you can't believe how easy that was!!
I LOVE my homemade glass cleaner! It cleans everything so well.  I combine this with using a wadded up piece of newspaper to clean my glass and mirrors and come out with streak free beautiful surfaces - and I have 6 kids running around this place who don't believe in clean. So if it works for us I think you will love it too!

The best part about this cleaner is it works GREAT on Stainless Steel too. A couple of years ago we decided to update our appliances to Stainless...... I know you are thinking "what were you thinking - 6 kids and stainless" - and you would be right.  Then I found this recipe and started using it. I had fingerprints and smudges everywhere and it cost a fortune for the "stainless steel" cleaners.  Don't get me wrong, I still have little fingerprints and smudges,  but it is much easier to clean now and doesn't cost me a ton of money.  Give it a try and let me know what you think.
