Adventures in Odyssey: The Imagination Station Series Books 5 & 6 Review + Giveaway

I have been a fan of Adventures in Odyssey since I was about 8 years old. I was a kid with a very active imagination, so I ate up every minute of the 30-minute radio program. If I missed an episode, it was just about the end of my world!

If you've been reading My Kansas City Mommy for awhile, you may have caught my earlier reviews from the Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station series by Mariane Hering and Paul McCusker.  Head here to read my review of books 1 & 2, and head here to read my review of books 3 & 4.  I'm excited to bring you a review and giveaway of the next two titles in the series - they've been released just in time for the holiday season!

In Book 5, Showdown with the Shepherd, kids can journey along with cousins Patrick and Beth to the battlefield where David meets Goliath.  I was easily drawn into this story as the cousins arrive in the Holy Land and run into young David, who is enroute to the battlefield with food for his brothers.  It's a neat perspective to read this story from a child's point of view and I think young readers will easily be intrigued.  Overall the book teaches a great lesson about having faith - even when problems in life seem too giant to overcome.

In Book 6, Problems in Plymouth, the characters head off on yet another adventure in Mr. Whittaker's Imagination Station - this time to Plymouth Colony in the year of 1621.  They're in hot pursuit of a man called Hugh (they've been trying to catch up with him for quite awhile, in fact) - and this time they manage to corner him.  Unfortunately he escapes yet again and the first Thanksgiving is in jeopardy.  This book has a slower pace than most of the other titles in the series, but is still an engaging read for kids who are interested in history.  When I read fiction about historical events, it usually prompts me to do more research on the subject - so maybe this will be the case for your young readers, too!

The Imagination Station series is written for kids ages 7 and up - though I am well above age 7 and thoroughly enjoyed them.  There are six books in the series so far.  These inspirational books are fun and exciting, and a great way to get kids excited about history!
